Society seeks justice for fire victims

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: The Janu Nekam Nayam and Negia Welfare Society (JNNNWS) has appealed to the Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner to do justice for the actual fire victims who lost all their belongings in a fire mishap at Daporijo on March 3 last. The Society in a release today said that the actual fire victims   were deprived of the Rs 10 lakh relief and rehabilitation fund granted by the Chief Minister.An influential person manipulated the list of fire victims and prepared a false list of 14 in place of six actual fire victims, it alleged. Claiming that the sanctioned relief amount was misappropriated and actual fire victims were deprived of, the Society also demanded action against the persons who manipulated the actual list of fire victims.

 

Kameng Boogie Woogie grand finale held

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: The grand finale of Kameng Boogie Woogie under the aegis of Arunachal Boogie Woogie season-II organized by Hornbill Centre for Development was held recently.

Sonu Tamang, Sapna Miji and Shanti Neri were declared as winner, 1st runners up and 2nd runners up of the event.

The top ten winners of all the zonal level competition will compete in the State level Mega audition at Itanagar in September next.

The Kameng BW Season-II was attended by Arunachal Boogie Woogie Season-II, Organizing Chairman Taring Tiri,  Secretary Karken Riba, others office bearers Toko Nania, Beli Gadi and Hornbill Centre for Development, Chairman Nima Tsering and Takam Nikum and his group Dancing Devils.

 

Medical fraternities in Pasighat observe Doctors’ Day

PASIGHAT, Jul 02: The medical fraternities of Pasighat organised a social service and mass plantation in the General Hospital and TB Hospital campus yesterday to mark the Doctors’ Day.

Pasighat Pharmacists Association (PPA) felicitated the medical practitioners with red roses, who have devoted their lives in helping others by making best use of their profession.

Speaking on the occasion, the Jt Director (Health) Dr. Kabang Lego briefed the life history of late Dr. Roy and highlighted the significance of celebrating Doctor's Day. He also explained the role of a doctor who are considered only person next to god as saying goes.

The Medical Superintendent Dr. Onik Moyong stated that doctors are life savers. They can rekindle the hope of many by curing an ailing patients through treatment. They feel great joy and satisfaction when they succeeds in giving new life to patients, he said.

The Day was observed jointly by the Doctors and Pasighat Pharmacists Association (PPA) in honor of the legendary physician late Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy here yesterday. DIPRO

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: Toru Panchayat Youth Welfare Association in collaboration with Toru Panchayat leaders, GBs, Public and students conducted social service at Mowa Primary School, Toru recently.

Later, they also conducted a debate competition on environment protection. ASM Tana Nido distributed prizes to Tana Auyu, GB Yowa Rebia and Tana Yaji, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners of the competition.

 

Essential items reaches Paglam

ROING, Jul 02: The essential ration commodities provided by the local MLA Jomin Tayeng was received by a committee headed by Debakar Perme, ASM Paglam-B, PRI Members and GBs as members. The ration items were distributed equally among the villagers and govt employees working at Paglam circle under the supervision of Eving Yirang, incharge SDO Dambuk.

 The MLA had provided 10 MT of rice and 3 quintals of Potato today as an immediate relief to flood hit people of Paglam, who were facing acute food shortage due to recent flood in Dotung River.

The commodities were brought from Tinsukia, Assam via Dholla Ghat.

  Meanwhile, the Dambuk Flood Control Committee have expressed gratitude to various companies operating in Dambuk Sub-Division, for extending their support by providing materials and machineries during the Flood Control Works organized by the villagers on Self-Help basis last month. The DFCC hoped that they would continue to lend their helping hands in future too when such support are sought from them.

 

Strengthen administrative activity: Students

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: All Pumao Circle Students’ Union appealed to the state government to strengthen the administrative activities in Pumao Circle Office in order to maintain law and order problem.

Briefing about the other grievances being faced by people of Pumao and Longding area, the students union appealed to the state government and concern authority to look into the non functional telephone service, poor SBI banking facility and electricity problems immediately.

 

Vehicle checking at Aalo

Aalo, Jul 02: An  amount of Rs  51,700 was collected as motor vehicle taxes during an unannounced vehicle checking in Aalo recently.

Several vehicles were found plying without proper documents, registration certificate etc. during the checking while some of the vehicles seized were released later on realization of taxes as per Motor Vehicle Act.

The checking drive was led by R Gab, DTO, MVI and police.  DIPRO

 

Services of ADEOs retained as BEOs

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: The outdated posts of Assistant District Education Officers (ADEOs) have been redesignated as Block Education Officers (BEOs) and services of all the then ADEOs have also been retained as BEOs vide a Govt order issued on May 30 last. This was informed by the Arunachal ADEOs/BEOs Forum in a release today.

While appreciating officers and officials of Education department, Education Minister Bosiram Siram  in particular  and CM Nabam Tuki led Govt  in general  for fulfilling their long-pending demands, the Forum appealed to the concern minister to expedite administrative process for full-fledged directorate of elementary education. It further pleaded for Group B gazetted status to BEOs.

 

Repair G-extension road

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: Polo Colony Youth Welfare Association informed that the government officials and public are facing enormous problems due to dilapidated road and steel bridge connecting Polo Colony with G Extension, Naharlagun.

It appealed to the local MLA and concerned department to look into the matter immediately to avert untoward accident.

 

Establish one more college at P/Pare

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: Arunachal Pradesh Colleges’ Forum in a letter to chief minister appealed for establishment of one more government college at Papum Pare district within this year.

Due to ever increasing number of students in DN College, Itanagar, the college is currently unable to facilitate and accommodate the students resulting in poor academic performance of the students, it said.

 

Rain plays havoc in capital

ITANAGAR, Jul 02:  After  two day’s brief  lull, torrential rain played havoc  in state capital  late this evening.

According to sources,  gushing rain water washed away the  main generator line and water tank of Heema Hospital here at around 12 night. The hospital management  is fighting against all odds to restore normalcy. Unconfirmed report informed that rain water  also damaged NH-52 A at various locations in the Capital. Details are awaited.  

 

NCP nullify Pinch press statement

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: Reiterating its stand that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had dissolved its Arunachal Pradesh party unit on June 27 and reconstituted an ad-hoc committee with Kahfa Bengia as its convenor, NCP permanent secretary and working committee member S R Kohli, New Delhi today said that press statement of Ngurang Pinch regarding expulsion of two MLAs and four others from the party is totally baseless and irrelevant. He is no more the president of Arunachal NCP unit and therefore, his statement does not carry any weight, Kohli said in a release today.

 

DDSE acquitted

ITANAGAR, Jul 02:  While  hearing the Daporijo  PS case No 77/2010,  the Chief Judicial Magistrate,  Daporijo  acquitted Upper Subansiri DDSE Obuk Panor from all charges leveled against him.

The CJM Court quoting the final report of the police said “Nothing could be established against the alleged accused Panor in spite of intensive investigation and no sufficient evident to establish the offence.”

 

Seppa reeling under darkness

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: Seppa, the district headquarters of East Kameng has been reeling under darkness since last Saturday due to non-functioning of  Pacha hydel project.

The hydel project is not functioning due to shortage of hydraulic oil, sources said. However, the DC has assured restoration work to make the hydel project functional soon.

 

Calsom Computer Centre

TEZU, July 02: Former Minister Khapriso Krong inaugurated the Calsom Computer Centre in the Calsom School, Library and Computer Centre, Tamlanagar here today.

The Centre has been opened by Cultural and Literary Society of Mishmi (Calsom) with the aim of providing computer education to the students of Lohit, Anjaw, Dibang Valley and Lower Dibang Valley districts.

The center would be giving three months Integrated Computer Application (ICA) course and six months Diploma in Computer Application (DCA).

The certificate for the courses would be given by CEC, Guwahati. DIPRO

 

Father-daughter  death condoled

ITANAGAR, July 02: Taba Tat Foundation, Billo Yazali, deeply mourned the untimely demise of Taba Khochi and his daughter Taba Yache on June 30 at Pappu -I village, Naharlagun.

Taba Khochi served as handyman under PWD Naharlagun office for last 20 years and is survived by two wives, a son and two daughters.

The foundation prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.

The Tebw Employees Forum (TEF) has also mourned  the untimely demise of its member Taba Khochi and his daughter Taba Yache and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and bestowing strength to the bereaved family members to bear the irreparable loss.

 

GBs demand doctor

ITANAGAR, July 02: All Lower Subansiri Gaon Burah Welfare Association highlighting the grievances of Raga area alleged that the doctor posted in dilapidated PHC Raga is out of station for the last many months and there is no medicine in the hospital.

It further said that government had constructed a 20 bedded hospital building at Yada but till today the newly constructed hospital has not been used and it has become a centre for anti social activity.

It appealed to the state government and district authority to look into the matter immediately and also send a doctor at PHC Raga within a month.

It further said that if any untoward incident happens in absence of doctors in the hospital, the concerned authority will be solely responsible for it.

Two arrested as crackdown against LPG pilferage continues

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: Since Papum Pare District Administration took over the rationing and distribution of LPG in Capital Region and Papum Pare district, officers of Food & Civil Supplies department have unearthed a few cases of pilferage of domestic LPG perpetrated by some unscrupulous middlemen ostensibly in active connivance with some traders . In this connection one Cheniram Khaund, S/o Khaleshwar Khaund, Aunibari Village, Gohpur, Sonitpur district in Assam was apprehended on June 3 and handed over to Naharlagun Police for further investigation. The accused was engaged in illegal printing of fake LPG cash memos for M/s Aunsiri Gas agency, Naharlagun and selling it at the rate which was twice the rate of original price.

Many credulous and unsuspecting customers had been hoodwinked in buying those fake cash memos which bore striking similarity to that of the original cash memos, informed District Civil Supplies Officer Amit Bengia in a press statement. Interestingly, many of them who had applied for LPG using these fake cash memos easily got their LPG cylinders. Nobody cast aspersion or suspicion on the fake cash memos.  Similar instances occurred in M/s Marina Gas Agency, Itanagar in which two black marketeers were handed over to police on June 2, 2012.

Today, one Ajit Basumatari driver of M/s Donyi Polo Gas agency, Itanagar was caught red handed while selling refilled LPG cylinder above prescribed price. Subsequently, he has been handed over to Itanagar police for further investigation. It is suspected that such back door dealings in LPG distribution must have been going on for a long time and that huge amount must have been embezzled causing a colossal loss to all the LPG stake holders. It is also suspected that some inter-state gangs are involved in this ‘lucrative’ business thereby creating artificial LPG crisis in the market. A thorough investigation and pro active approach are need of the hour to nab the perpetrators of this crime. The police and administration need to act tough without showing any leniency towards the criminals, said departmental release.

The Director of Food & Civil Supplies Sadhana Deori and other senior officers of the state Government have appreciated the initiative as the team led by Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu, DFCSO Amit Bengia with SDFCSOs Joram Sanku, Biri Kago and Sub-Inspectors, Tana Rotu Tara, Dana Angung and Pranab Hazarika have been able to streamline the LPG distribution in the district to a great extent.

  The DC, capital Sunjay Goel appreciated the commendable job carried out by the officers of F&CS department and asked DFCSO to continue the good effort. He opined that more raids should be conducted in the commercial establishments like hotels and restaurants adding that some tangible changes have been noticed in LPG distribution after this exercise. He told this at co-ordination meeting of all HoDS held today in his office chamber.

DFCSO Amit Bengia has appealed to all the consumers not to indulge in buying of LPG cash memos from outsiders other than authorized agencies which have been notified from time to time. He further sought cooperation from all the consumers by availing telephonic advance booking facilities and desist from engaging unknown middleman in the queue for LPG booking.

 

 

State to take up with NEC for flood control measures

Mein visits flood hit Namsai, Chowkham Sub-Division

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: While visiting flood affected areas of entire Namsai Sub-Division on July 1 and 2, Finance, Planning & PWD Minister Chowna Mein and MLA-cum-Parliamentary Secretary Assam Bolin Chetia, assured the flood affected people along the border that they and their respective state governments will jointly take up with NEC for flood control measures at Noa Dihing and Padum Nallah which not only causes havoc in Arunachal Pradesh but also a major threat to Assam.

Mein directed the Lohit district administration to shift the threatened villagers to safer places. He also directed the administration to assess the loss immediately and to provide immediate relief and assistance to the victims.

Expressing solidarity with the affected people who had to leave their houses and take shelter in Dharmpur Relief Camp and other relief camps at Mahadevpur and Namsai area, he assured to extend all sort of assistance to the victims for their rehabilitation. He also inspected Silatoo area where the river Noa Dihing was eroding the cultivable land so badly posing a great threat to entire village. Regarding rehabilitation and flood control measures to be taken up, the Minister directed Water Resource Department and all other departments to prepare a logistic estimate for mitigating the flood and erosion of the area.

The Minister also visited Padum Nallah which has been converted into a river by the overflowing water of Noa Dihing River.

The team that accompanied the minister included Nang Sati Mein, MLA, Namsai, Deputy Commissioner R K Sharma, Superintendent of Police and all the Heads of Departments of the Lohit District, Panchayat leaders, and  high ranking officials of Water Resource Department of Assam.

The team also visited the Dykes and Embankments as well as Relief Camps and expressed satisfaction on the timely steps taken by all the agencies including District Administration and Water Resource Department with the help and cooperation of local people to control the flood at its initial stage. He assured to take up the matter with the Chief Minister to provide necessary fund after the loss is assessed and report is submitted by the District Administration.

Bolin Chetia appealed to the people residing in the border areas of both the States to maintain  brotherhood as well as peace and harmony since they are dependent on each other.

Later Mein accompanied by MLA-cum-Parliamentary Secretary Chow Tewa Mein and the entire team of Officers led by Deputy Commissioner also visited all the flood affected areas of Chowkham area and expressed shock over the merger of Kamlang, Mora Kamlang and Sipiri rivers causing huge loss to Sipiri Mukh and Alubari area. The Minister directed Water Resource Department and all concerned to prepare a logistic estimate to save the Alubari and other areas from the overflowing waters of above rivers and assured to take up the matter with the Chief Minister to provide necessary fund after submission of report by the District Administration.

 

 

Indian Army reaches out to villagers

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: Reaching out to the villagers who cannot afford to travel long distances to town for proper medical treatment, the 46 Infantry Brigade of the Indian Army organized a free medical Camp at Rama Krishna Sarada Mission School, Khaso Village at Dirang, West kameng District.  

Hundreds of people from the villages in and around the picturesque Khaso Valley thronged the medical camp for treatment for various ailments, including dental, gynecological etc during the two days programme which started on June 30.

Speaking on the occasion, the officers of the Army lauded the efforts of the volunteers from the All Dirang Students Union, All Monpa Youth Association, Members of the Mon Multipurpose Development Coop. Society and the Indian Youth Congress of Dirang assembly constituency who worked hand in hand with the armed forces to make the medical camp a success. The camp was inaugurated by the Commanding Officer oF Field Hospital with Adm. support provided by the 6 Sikh Regiment based in the area.

Dirang Block Congress Committee president Lhakpa Tsering speaking on the occasion thanked the army and the volunteers on behalf of the Congress government for bringing medical facilities to the doorstep of the poor villagers who are very busy in agricultural activities throughout the day during the  cultivation season.

The Army Officers including the Civil Society members visited the Rama Krishna Sarada Mission School and appreciated the works being done by the congregation of the Rama Krishna Sarada Mission.

Appreciating the efforts of the Matajis of the school, Lt. Col Puri of the 2-Sikh Regiment and Lhakpa Tsering committed to donate some essential items to the schools.

Meanwhile, the All Dirang Students Union pledged the school authorities that they would conduct a massive social service in the school whenever called for to help in maintaining the compound of the school which is in a disorganized state right now.

 

 

MP calls for development of Ecotourism

PASIGHAT, Jul 02: Member of Parliament Ninnong Ering exhorted people of the state to make a humble beginning for development of Ecotourism in Arunachal Pradesh.

Ecotourism is one of the sector where Arunachal has got huge potentials. We must tap this huge potential for development of our state, the MP said while interacting with the members of Pasighat Market Association  (PMA) and officers of Forest, Public Health Engineering, Urban Development, Public Works Departments etc. here today.

The MP suggested for a clean and hygienic town area, developing a sense of belongingness, participation and after all a change in people’s mindset and attitude to start with. He instructed the DFO to make saplings available to the PMA members for plantation. Random construction of latrines and littering the area with plastic bags etc. must be stopped and dumping of waste materials systematized, the MP said.

He informed that Rs. 20 lakh has been sanctioned from his MPLAD for construction of a multi-purpose community hall at market area beside assuring to provide Rs.1 lakh for plantation in and around the market areas.  District Forest Officer (DFO) Bittem Darang informed that there has been no shortage in saplings and his department was ready to provide adequate seedlings for plantation. He stressed on creating awareness amongst the vegetable vendors on cleanliness and restriction on the use of polythene bags.

PMA president Onyok Tamuk urged the authority concerned for enhancing security measures and proper lighting system in the market areas. He also appealed for providing sufficient fund for UD department for taking up town maintenance activities.

Officers of UD department highlighted the problems created by vegetable vendors in parking vehicles and opined for their vacation from the parking places. They also appealed to those who are constructing new buildings not to damage and block the drains.

HC stays construction of helipads at Pakke-Kessang and Seijosa

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: While admitting a PIL case no 34/2012 filed by petitioners Lama Tallang and Dinesh Nyare, the Gauhati High Court ordered to stop further construction of helipads at Pakke-Kessang and Seijosa.

The petitioners in its PIL said that construction of helipads at Pakke-Kessang and Seijosa were taken up in violation of guidelines of the State and Central Govts.

The on-going construction of  Seijosa helipad  at  Pakke river bed is not only susceptible but it would create a great impact on ecological existence, the PIL said. They further said construction of parallel helipad in the existing helipad at Pakke-Kessang without prior approval from the Govts has deprived the Pijerang  people of having a sanctioned helipad.

An amount of Rs 149.18 lakh was sanctioned for construction of Seijosa helipad. But  the NIT of Rs 68,46,000 was invited for construction of the same, the PIL alleged.

The petitioners appealed to the High Court to pass stay order against operation of NITs related to Pakke-Kessang  and Seijosa helipads.

While delivering the judgment, the High Court  in its order on June 28 said “Inspite of two opportunities already granted, the state of Arunachal Pradesh failed to file response. Last opportunity is granted to file its response and it was listed again on 26.7.2012. Meanwhile, there would be no further construction on the place in question.”

Hard fought win for CCSC, ITBP

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: Capital Complex SC  beat Karsingsa FC 2-1 while Indo Tibetan Border Police defeated Game Zone FC 3-2 in the league level match in the first Gora Tamar Memorial State Level Football Tournament at RG Stadium, Naharlagun today.

CCSC took the lead seven minutes into the match through goal from Tadar Kojum. Tani Raju added another goal in 16th minutes. The team was leading 2-0 in the breather.

Karsingsa FC reduced the margin to 1-2 by scoring a goal in 67 minute through Tame Bajin.

The ITBP team showed character by coming from behind after Game Zone had taken early lead through goal from Orien Lego in 18 and 20 minute.

The second half was completely dominated by the para-military force as they scored as many as 3 goals to snatch the match from Game Zone. Dhrmendra Kumar (46 min), Mahesh Ekk (56 min) and Naveen Singh (61 min) were the scorers of ITBP team.

The second match between Sagalee SC and Gora Makik SC ‘A’ was abandoned with the score 1-1. The remaining part of the match would be played tomorrow at 8 am, informed organizing committee.

Statues of Gandhi and Ering to be reinstalled

Pasighat, Jul 02: Education Minister Bosiram Siram and MP Ninnong Ering along with East Siang Deputy Commissioner R.K. Mishra, officers and public leaders visited the proposed site for reinstallation of statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Daying Ering that  were defiled by miscreants.

Siram informed that proper planning and drawing has already been completed and necessary fund will be allotted. He instructed the EE (PWD) to take up the works immediately. The works will be overseen by a committee under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner for complete transparency. He also wanted that the installation of statues should not only beautify the township but also help to ease the traffic problem.

He also informed that a rostrum will be constructed in the Bazar for public utility. DIPRO

 

 

PWD faces criticism as MMJ roads remains closed

RUKSIN, Jul 02: The Public Work Department (PWD) officials in East Siang has come under heavy criticism as Mirem- Mikong-Jonai (MMJ) remained closed since June 23. A Bailey bridge connecting these areas caved in on the night of June 23 last at Ngorlung cutting off road communication. The bridge caved in when an over loaded truck was crossing over it.

Officials said that maximum bearable load capacity of the bridge was only eight tones, but the truck was carrying a load of about 40 tones which caused the bridge to cave in.

The blame game continues as the PWD officials are blaming the local police for the incident, who allegedly allowed the heavy truck to proceed further without any verification.

The department further informed that board with warning at the weak condition of the bridge was erected twice which were removed by unknown miscreants.

The local villagers are infuriated at the attitude of the departments.

“We sought proper inquiry to trace out those involved with the incident. Neither the sub-divisional administration nor the PWD officials have initiated any ground inquiry over the incident despite our repeated approach”, alleged Ruksin block ZPM Tonggeng Panyang.

“The police were well aware of weak condition of the Bailey bridge, but they allowed the heavy truck to ply over the bridge”, rued Ojing Aze, the Ruksin Anchal Chairperson in a statement.

The villagers have demanded the PWD authority for early construction of a temporary bridge for partial restoration of communication along the road.

 

 

Idea skill dev prog on garment designing & tailoring

ITANAGAR, Jul 02: Twenty-two trainees were given course completion certificates on garment designing and training organised by Daporijo unit of Itanagar Diocesan Empowerment Association (IDEA) in a ceremony organised at Sacred Heart School campus on June 30.

Henge Riba, Research Assistant, District Planning Office, Daporijo distributed the course completion certificates to the trainees.

Speaking on the occasion, Riba hoped the trainees would make the best use of the skills they have acquired in the training programme. He encouraged them to open their own shops in their respective colony through which they can earn their livelihood and also make additional income for their families.

Rev.Fr. Anto SAC Principal of Sacred Heart School also encouraged the passed out trainees to open their own venture.

During the programme, the people present on the valedictory function occasion were enlightened with the PowerPoint presentation of the need to use innovative ideas and methods specially in garment designing and tailoring.

Earlier, Sr. Rose Mary SABS the IDEA Co-coordinator and programme read out the brief history of rural skill and livelihood development programme of IDEA in Daporijo unit.

Discrimination and North East

Dear Editor,

Well,  I respect the NESO’s recent protest rally against the discrimination of North-East’s people in mainland India but I strongly condemn NESO in particular & other Student organization as a whole for it. Instead of resolving the things they are exaggerating it. Even the alleged murder episode of Loitam Richard was an exaggerated one. Instead of filing a criminal case against the accused student & college authorities they made it a mass movement. Instead of moving a court or high court they moved to student organization. Is this all because our people don’t have the patience & courage to get justice by legal means? Is this all because we are scared of court hearings & wants fast tract justice?

Thousands of crimes like rape, murder, eve teasing, molestation, etc, are happening in metro cities or elsewhere every day. But when one crime is committed against North-East people, we give it communal color to get fast track justice. Such hatred & racial protest will worsen the matter instead of finding an amicable solution.

During my college days I was bashed up by eight goons inside my Hostel room for which I was hospitalized. They could have murdered me, if I hadn’t resisted their assaults courageously & managed to hit back few of the goon members. Many college fellows were against me giving it communal colour. Nonetheless good numbers were there with me. Instead of misguiding me, they suggested me to forget everything & concentrate on my studies. This way I finished my Diploma & Degree course as well from Maharashtra within the stipulated time without any backlog. This incident taught me a lesson that sometimes it’s better to conceal, console & make compromises with odds of life. Be a loser sometimes to win the great race.

The problem of discrimination of north- east people is not a new issue nor could it be eliminated in a fraction of time. Earlier I thought the reason was our facial looks. But today I realized that the main reason is our life style, food habit & conduct. Instead of mixing up with them, we behave like an antique piece & make ourselves exotic. Instead of cooking their food we cook smelly food. Instead of carrying cloths or books in our bag we carry bamboo shoots & local chilli powder in flight, trains or buses to show that we are different. Instead of late night studies our student enjoys late night parties to anguish the neighbour. Despite parent’s insistences to marry the guy of their choices, live in relationship is the trend of our students outside.

And when the local people have say on it, you over react. When they turn rude you call it discrimination. When they deny you to accommodate as tenant to avoid smelly food, you call it discrimination. Is it so hard to discard smelly food from your dining at least while living outside? Can’t we make compromises & change our selves to be inducted as civilized human being? Can’t we stop butchering dogs publicly? If I don’t eat dog meat means I feel awkward & filthy to allow someone to cook dog meat in my house, forget about dining together.

Not all of us do it, but due to some peoples deeds we all have to pay for it, as all of us look alike. It is said that a rotten fish destroys the whole pond. In the same way even the innocent has to pay for misdeeds of others.

Dignity, respect & honour should be earned instead of forceful rally, agitation or demonstrations. NESO is misleading the student community of North-East.

The solution of discrimination is neither the protest nor any legal enactment but it is within us. If we mend our life style and do as Romans while in Rome then we could be a role model to our society.

Don’t cry for justice but find strategy for it. Live on their terms & conditions while outside rather than try to force on them your cultures & traditions.

Yesterday it was cold war & tomorrow it would be open war of racial discrimination. The best way to fight discrimination is good numbers of bureaucrats across the length of country should act as watchdog of legal issues pertaining to discriminations to North-East’s people.

Dear NESO & APPSU, if you really are concerned of our people, instead of wasting such huge donated money in protest rally or bandh calls, sponsor a meritorious-poor student to pursue higher studies in Manchester, Oxford or other top universities of world. Help them crack civil service exam to hold top post of our country. Don’t spoil the future of budding student by indulging them as your activist in bandh calls for your personnel gains. You will build your career by such publicity stunts & you would become MLA or MP one day, but where will the poor student go after they are dropped out of school, college or universities?

Being a student organization focus on student welfares & student related grievances. Aren’t there any political parties to mentor the ruling government? Has constitution of India enacted you to act as an opposition party?

Land encroachments and bandhs

Dear Editor,

Govt. Land encroachment in capital and Papum Pare district started at D- Sector Naharlagun.

This place which is located at the heart of capital complex has been the epicentre of this disease which spread to other districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

Our torch bearers, intellects and senior citizens are to be blamed for this bad example which was set in our society. In the year 1997, I too followed the footsteps of our seniors’. But all my efforts to intrude govt. Land had gone in vain!

We felled trees at Banderdewa area during the full moon night and constructed a traditional hut where currently the Tax & Excise Check Point has come up.

At that time forest department evicted us from the place and destroyed our hut. We were compelled to quit the place. But after few years  the same place is ruined and deforested.

Today govt. Quarter and land in capital complex are converted into Private Apartments.

Subsequently some govt. employees are forced to reside at Rented Apartments.

On the other hand, Bandh call is a problem for all. Govt staffs are the master mind behind bandh calls that spread news like a wild fire which engulfs the capital psychologically affecting the unknown traders and general public. Afterward they fly to their respective native place for their personal work. Govt. should impose “no work no pay “system for employees who are absent during bandh.

Contractual jobs for engineers

Dear Editor,

I would like to know from the Engineering departments why they are recruiting junior engineers on contract basis in various departments when State government is in financial crisis. Even if they are appointed on contractual basis why their services are repeatedly extended?

Instead they should quit and give chance to other unemployed engineers to experience the nature and function of the job. And why the JE's on contractual basis are given the charge of projects? Who will be the responsible for the monetary scam, if there is one?

In our state maximum of the JE's on contractual basis are enjoying the multi-crore projects while the regular JE's are deprived of this.

I would like to convey this message to every engineering department so that they do not indulge in such malpractice.

The pending salary

Dear Editor,

We the NRHM staff nurses (contract) would like to draw the attention of the concerned department dealing with our salary that it’s been 3 months and we have not received our salary.

It’s very disheartening that after such hard work in providing services to the masses, we are being neglected.

Hence NRHM Staff Nurses (Contract) would like to appeal and request the concerned Department and Minister Health and F&W to release our pending salary of last 3 months and see to our other grievances with urgency.

The resolution

Dear Editor,

The resolution tabled by a Punjab legislator to send stray dogs to North East India and China is very insulting to the people of north east India.

But if they really send stray dogs to our areas, I shall be thankful to Punjab Government.

Otherwise, North East Indian should pass a resolution that the Punjabis should take off their turban as long as they are in North East.

Don’t stir hornet's nest

Dear Editor,

The issue of Mishing is being raked up again and again by some or the other organisations to serve their vested interests.

When the apex student body of the state had made its stand clear, I think the stand of the entire state is made known. I see no reason why illegitimate demands should be made on the issue.

Post Independence, our country got divided into states primarily on linguistic basis. Bengal became for Bengalis what Andhra became for Telugu. Even states got sub-divided into districts, the basis being the linguistic angle.

Now with few people demanding ST status for Mishings as Adi tribe would not it be a fair idea if the Mishings relocated entirely to places and districts demarcated for the Adi tribe so that the other tribes do not have problem accepting them as Adi. It wouldn't be a good idea for them to settle in Lohit or Dibang district when they already have a large geographical area demarcated for them in the state.

This suggestion can allow the Mishings attain the Adi tribe status without stirring the hornet's nest.

Partnership key to MDGs

For the first time since poverty trends began to be monitored, both the number of people living in extreme poverty and the poverty rates have fallen in every developing region, including sub-Saharan Africa, where rates are highest,  according to the Millennium Development Goals -2012 report.

Preliminary estimates indicate that in 2010, the share of people living on less than a $1.25 a day dropped to less than half of its 1990 value. This means that MDG 1 – cutting the extreme poverty rate to half its 1990 level – has been achieved at the global level, well ahead of 2015.

The report notes that the target of halving the proportion of people without access to improved sources of drinking water by 2010 has been achieved. The proportion of people using improved water sources rose from 76 per cent in 1990 to 89 per cent in 2010.

In addition, the share of urban residents in the developing world living in slums has declined from 39 per cent in 2000 to 33 per cent in 2012. More than 200 million have gained access to either improved water sources, improved sanitation facilities, or durable or less crowded housing. This achievement exceeds the target of significantly improving the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers.

The report also points out that the world has achieved another milestone: parity in primary education between girls and boys. Driven by national and international efforts, many more of the world’s children are enrolled in school at the primary level, especially since 2000. Girls have benefited the most. There were 97 girls enrolled per 100 boys in 2010 – up from 91 girls per 100 boys in 1999.

However, observers believe that food security and hunger are the biggest challenges India faces currently. In terms of education too, India is not on course to achieve the targets outlined in the MDG’s which is reinforced by the fact that the nation has the highest rate of dropouts from schools and colleges in the world.

The report, however, warns that the 2015 deadline is fast approaching and in order to achieve outstanding goals, governments, the international community, civil society and the private sector need to intensify their contributions.
